The Asian Pacific Coalition presents….

Asian and Pacific Islander Graduation

"Rekindling the Past, Forging our Future"

Sunday, June 18, 2006

North Dickson Court (Perloff Quad)

3pm-6pm

Asian and Pacific Islander Graduation (APIG) is one of the few student-initiated graduations at UCLA. APC has been sponsoring APIG since 1983. This year marks the 24 th anniversary of this long-standing tradition. This years theme, "Rekindling the Past, Forging our Future" aims at stressing the importance of knowing ones past history and using that knowledge and understanding as a tool in molding a successful future. Unlike the regular commencement ceremonies on campus, APIG gives you more personal attention both in the ceremony and in the program. The main ceremony will consist of a keynote speaker, student speaker, cultural performances, and the commencement ceremony.

Some perks of APIG:

  • APIG is open to students, undergraduate and graduate, of all majors and minors
  • Because it is open to anyone, you can graduate with your friends!
  • Unlimited tickets for all participants
  • Graduates may choose to wear the traditional cap and gown or their ethnic and cultural attire
  • Upon receiving their certificates, graduates will each have 15 seconds to address the audience and thank family and friends
  • A free APIG t-shirt that includes all names of participants on it
  • Heritage speakers in 10+ Asian & Pacific Islander languages to address your family & friends
  • Cultural performances!
  • There will be a student speaker selected... which means YOU can do a speech at your own graduation!
  • A once in a life time experience!

Applications for APIG can be picked up at the APC office (Kerckhoff 419). Applications are due Friday, May 5, 2006 in the APC office (Kerckhoff 419). The forms are also attached to this email. You can also do ONLINE registration: http://www.apcla.org/apigform.html

Also, look out for the following APIG fundraisers on campus:

  • Annual APIG Korean BBQ fundraiser (week 7)
  • Bakesales
  • Rubio's Fundraiser
  • And much more!

Thank you for your interest and support!
